MOUNTAIN DOULA

Deirdre fell in love with babies when her sister was born in 1972. She helped her mother by cooking dinner and never missed an oppotunity to rock her sister to sleep. In 1977 she gave birth to a swet baby boy of her own. She has thoroughly enjoyed th e company of babies and small children ever since. 
As a certified Postpatum Doula, Deirdre is experienced with multiples, as well as preemies and babies brought home while on oxygen. Deirdre brings a calm professionalism into the homes of newborns, helping the household run smoothly. Reassuring mom of her natural mothering instincts, an essential instinct for the bonding process. Families with older children at home receive much neede relief knowing that their youngsters will thrive with a little extra attention.
As a previously certified Lactation Educator, Deirdre will help mom and Baby get off to a good start with breastfeeding. She remains current on lactation information as a member of La Leche League, with extensive personal studies in nutrition (following exclusive breastfeeding) and postpartum depression. Deirdre is also the Basic Newborn Care instructor at Memorial Hospiatal's Health Link. As a postpartum doula, she offers an "extra pair of hands" combined with non-intrusive, non-judgemental validating support, according to the family's specific needs and wishes. Her goal is to nurture the family as a whole, helping the daily routine run smoothly.Deirdre brings fresh enthusiasm to each new family she works with.
Presently, Deirdre lives in the mountains with her best friend and life partner, Nelson. They enjoy hiking, dancing, listening to music, and playing with their two dogs (rescued from the pound) whom they adore. Deirdre loves a good book, cooking, baking bread and enjoyscreating scrapbooks (ask to see her Babies scrapbook). She also is an artist. Having worked in pottery,jewelry, fiber, and mixed media. She currently creates customized double dreamcatchers for local clients.
